Bottas Leads Mercedes 1-2 In 2019 Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying


In what is likely to be a harbinger of what is to come tomorrow, Mercedes secured the front row of the 2019 Spanish Grand Prix with a 1-2 finish in qualifying as Valtteri Bottas beat defending Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton to take his third pole position in a row. Bottas was 0.634 seconds ahead of Hamilton, while Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel was third, another 0.866 seconds behind Bottas.

Of the three also-rans who have only a slight chance to win the race, Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was fourth ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, with Red Bull’s Pierre Gasly in sixth.

Bottas currently leads Hamilton in the 2019 F1 driver’s championship by one point.
