IndyCar Eliminates Standing Starts For 2015
After using them four times last season, IndyCar has decided to eliminate standing starts for the 2015 season. Standing starts were introduced in 2013 and were a fan favorite but caused problems with drivers and car technology that resulted in a crash at the Grand Prix of Indianapolis after pole-sitter Sebastian Saavedra’s car stalled on the start.
Additionally, what proved to be a disaster for Formula One in 2014 is getting a second chance in IndyCar in 2015 – double points will be awarded for both the Indianapolis 500 and the season-ending race at Sonoma.
