Chinese Grand Prix Rejoins Formula One Calendar For 2024 Season
Formula One has released a revised calendar for the 2024 season and it now includes the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai – in what would be the first time the race has occurred since 2019 before the Covid-19 worldwide pandemic. Since then, the race has been scheduled but always cancelled due to either the pandemic itself or Chinese policies relating to the pandemic.
Usually, the 2024 Formula 1 season begins in Australia but this year the F1 season begins in Bahrain on March 2, 2024 – both the 2024 Bahrain Grand Prix and 2024 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix are currently scheduled to be held on Saturdays, due to the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
In other changes to the calendar, the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix was moved to April 7, 2024 [it traditionally occurs in September] in the F1’s attempt at regionalization and a greater sustainability-laden calendar. That means that the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take the place of the Japanese Grand Prix in September along with the other usual September race, the Singapore Grand Prix.
F1 had wanted to do the same type of pairing with the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix and 2024 Miami Grand Prix – attempting to schedule both of those races in May prior to the iconic Monaco Grand Prix – but Canadian race organizers have steadfastly refused to alter their traditional race date in June and F1’s teams will have to fly across the Atlantic Ocean twice in approximately a month’s time.
