McElhenney And Reynolds Purchase Stake In Alpine
Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds – the actors who purchased and reinvigorated the Wrexham Football Club – have become part of an investor group taking a 24% equity stake in Formula One team Alpine.
Alpine’s parent company, Renault, announced that McElhenney and Reynolds are part of a group of investors that includes Otro Capital and RedBird Capital Partners [owners of the Boston Red Sox baseball team and AC Milan and Liverpool football teams].
Alpine are currently fifth in this year’s Formula 1 constructors’ championship and their drivers are Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly – are currently ninth and 10th in the F1 driver’s standings.
Reynolds and McElhenney famously teamed up to purchase lowly Wrexham – mired in the English bottom tier National League – in 2021 and helped get the Welsh club win the National League title and earn promotion back to the English Football League [EFL] after a 15-year absence.
McElhenney and Reynolds’ documentary “Welcome to Wrexham” detailed the transition and will debut the third season of the show on Hulu and Disney Plus later this summer.
