The Portimao circuit in the Algarve region of Portugal is set to be the third race of the 2021 Formula One season on May 2, 2021.
The postponement of the 2021 Australian Grand Prix along with loss of the Vietnamese Grand Prix created a gap in the Formula 1 schedule that can be filled by the Portuguese Grand Prix.
However, Portugal is likely to still be a restricted travel country due to the risk in the ongoing pandemic of the emergence of new Covid-19 coronavirus variants.
The 2020 Portugal Grand Prix was won – as many F1 races were last year – by seven-time defending world champion, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.
The 2021 Formula 1 season is currently slated to begin on March 28, 2021, with the Bahrain Grand Prix to be followed by the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola in Italy on April 18, 2021, and now the Portuguese Grand Prix on May 2, 2021.
